IKEA to open second Ohio store in early June
Home furnishings retailer IKEA will open its Columbus store in the US state of Ohio on 7 June to expand its footprint in the Midwestern region.
IKEA Columbus store will be the retailer’s second store in the state after the IKEA West Chester store. Overall, it will be the 44th store for the Swedish retailer in the US.
The new store opening in Columbus will see 300 new jobs which follows the 500 plus jobs that were created during its construction stage.
According to IKEA, the new roles will be for customer service, sales, cash, goods flow, receiving, stock replenishment and warehouse divisions.
Additionally, the IKEA Columbus store will create 60 new roles in food service which will be needed for the retailer’s 450-seat Swedish restaurant, Café Bistro, Swedish Foodmarket and employee cafeteria.
IKEA Columbus store manager David Garcia said: “We are thrilled by the excellent construction progress made to date, and believe we can complete the remaining milestones and interior build-up by early-June.
“Besides furnishing our store, we also are focused on continuing recruitment and training of all the coworkers joining the IKEA family.”
Built on a land of 33 acres, located on Interstate-71, the IKEA Columbus store will be of 354,000ft2 area. It will have space for parking 1,200 vehicles.
The standard IKEA architectural features have been incorporated in the new store which will be powered by rooftop solar arrays as is the case with a majority of other locations of the retailer.
As far as the inventory is concerned, the IKEA Columbus store will display around 10,000 exclusively designed items, three model home interiors and 50 inspirational room-settings.
