UK retailer Dunelm revenues rise

RBR Staff Writer Published 09 February 2012

UK-based homeware and soft furnishings retailer Dunelm has reported a 8.8% rise in revenues to £299.9m in 26 weeks to 31 December 2011, compared to £275.7m in the same period last year.

Like-for-like sales were up by 1.1% in the second quarter, compared with a 1.2% decline in the corresponding period a year earlier.

Profit after tax totaled £37.9m in the period ended 31 December. Profit before tax grew by 7.8% to £52.2m from £48.5m.

The company said operating costs grew by 10.1% (£8.8m) in aggregate, with the majority of the increase driven by the cost of opening 11 new stores and the resultant 8.7% year-on-year rise in average selling space.

During the period, the firm opened 11 new superstores, including the relocation of one store. Dunelm ended the period with 113 superstores, providing 3.3 million ft² of retail space, as well as nine high street shops.
