UK retailer Kingfisher sales up in fourth quarter
UK-based home-improvement retailer Kingfisher has posted a 2.2% increase in total sales to £2,355 in the quarter ended 28 January 2012, compared to the same period last year.
Like-for-like sales in the fourth quarter marginally grew by 0.9%. Total sales in the UK & Ireland grew by 1.5% to £968m. B&Q total sales rose 0.2% to £837m, while sales at Screwfix jumped 10.3% to £131m.
Total sales in France were up by 5.7% to £938m. Castorama sales rose 4.8% to £500m and Brico Dépôt sales increased 6.8% to £438m.
Other International sales in the thirteen weeks period were up by 5.8% to £449m, compared to the corresponding period a year earlier.
Kingfisher's main brands are B&Q, Castorama, Brico Dépôt and Screwfix. The company employs over 80,000 people and operates around 950 stores in eight countries in Europe and Asia.
The retailer also has a 50% joint venture with Turkey's Koc Group, and a 21% interest in, and strategic alliance with German DIY retailer Hornbach.
